Our choosen Charity - The MSA trust

Sometimes in life you don't get to choose which charities you most connect with, sometimes life simply pairs you with a charity you wish you never knew existed and never had to relay on the fantastic work they do.

Sadly in June 2013 my father passed away because of a horrible evil illness called MSA.

Not much is known about MSA though it is believed many more people suffer from it then are diagnosed, mainly because it resembles in many ways Parkinson's disease (except there are no known treatments for
MSA yet).

The MSA trust offer a ray of sunshine in an otherwise
very very dark and uninformative world, and they do that both for the sufferers and
their families as well as to the medical professionals helping those effected.

Here is a little bit about what they do and what MSA is.
Please support them as much as you can.

Yael Biran
Founder of Wishawish

What is MSA?

  • MSA is an indiscriminate and progressive terminal neurodegenerative disease
  • People often become locked in their own bodies as the disease progresses
  • There is no cure
  • Average life expectancy from the onset of symptoms is just 7-9 years
  • Nearly 3,000 people in the UK have MSA

Who are we?

  • The Multiple System Atrophy Trust
  • The only charity in the UK dedicated to supporting all those affected by MSA
  • Chosen Charity Partner of Wishawish

What do we do?

  • Provide direct support to over 4,000 people affected by this disease
  • Fund specialist MSA nurses
  • Run 33 local support groups across the UK and Ireland to reduce isolation
  • Operate a comprehensive website, user forum and local hub directory
  • Provide fact sheets and information for all people affected by MSA
  • Provide information to GPs so they can better support their patients with MSA
  • Work with multi-disciplinary and specialist clinics around the UK
  • Fund medical research to find the cause of and cure for MSA

How are we funded?

  • We are entirely reliant on donations to continue our work
