Christmas Marketing

8 Reasons to Send Christmas Ecards This Year

Did you know that there are  just 15 weeks until Christmas which is 106 days at the time of writing this!  That is not very long at all. If you want to ease the stress this Christmas, now is the time to start planning.

If you like to send Christmas cards to all your customers or clients why not send one of our Christmas eCards to your clients this year instead.  As well as saving the environment by using the digital format of an eCard, you will also have the ability to pack a powerful punch in terms of getting a marketing message across.  Using this medium at this time of year can have a great effect on your customers’ perception of your company.

An e-card is similar to a postcard or traditional greeting card, but the main difference it that it is aA virtual Christmas card which is created using digital media instead of paper or card. If you think about old fashioned Christmas cards, they get read once (if you’re lucky) and then are pinned to a pin board or hung up somewhere and never to be read again.  At the end of the season most will get recycled and forgotten.  With corporate christmas eCards the story is different.  If you send a clever, funny or thought provoking e-Card, the receiver is much likely to watch it a couple of times (if it’s any good) and then share it with people. This is great for brand exposure, marketing, driving traffic and for getting a subliminal marketing message through to potential new customers. Don’t believe us read on:

Reasons to send Customisable Christmas Ecards

There are lots of reasons why you should consider to send Ecards rather than tranditional cards this Christmas, but here  our top 8.

    1.  Remind and thank
With Ecards you can remind your customers of your brand, thank them for their custom this year and wish them all the best for the Christmas season and the new year
    2. Get a marketing message across
Ecards are a great way to communicate with customers by giving them a seasonal wish but also with a sneaky marketing message.  By sending Christmas ecards to old or current clients and wishing them a festive time, making them smile you will also be getting a marketing message across.
    3. Ecards are Eco friendly
Christmas Ecards are very eco friendly.  Ecards for business are the best way to let your prospects and customers acknowledge that you care about the environment which can have a huge impact on the image of your brand.
    4. Less time consuming
With eCards you will be saving valuable time as you don’t need to hand write on each and every one of them.  You can send one eCard to all your clients or customers in one go, or you can tailor specific eCards for particular groups of customers.  Perhaps one for current customers or clients and one for old clients and customer you would like to entice back.
    5. More affordable
Ecards for business are significantly more affordable than the paper cards and far more efficient. Yes you can get cards cheap from the supermarket but you will have to find someone to physically write in each one and then there is the cost of the actual stamps to post them.  This is a lot of time and money for someone who is likely to read the card, think thanks very much, and then never to read it again.
    6. More entertaining
Animated Christmas ecards for business are entertaining and captivating. Relaying your brand message to the target audience and entertaining them at the same time.  This is a very powerful marketing tool and it positively helps to influence the way people perceive your brand.
    7. Drive traffic
Ecards are also a great way of driving traffic to your website.  Wishawish allow you to include weblinks within the ecards so anyone who reads it can click straight to your website or social sites to see what’s new or what’s on offer.  Customers and colleagues are more likely to email or share a clever eCard or interactive game on social media to friends and family than they would if they got a funny or different tradition Christmas card.
    8. Measure metrics
With Wishawish we give you the ability to to see how your animated ecard is performing with a statistics page. You will be able to see how many people viewed your card, on what dates, where in the world they came from, where they clicked to view the card such as email or facebook.

By connecting, engaging and entertaining your audience you will also be informing them.  With Wishawish Corporate Christmas eCards you will be getting more branding control over your design, more exposure, more flexibility, more insights and a whole lot more love!

If you love your customers, show it, tell them, send Christmas Ecards…. after all Christmas is a time for giving.  Remember the more you give, the more you will receive.  So go ahead, send a little festive cheer to your customers and let them know you appreciate them. Then after Christmas sit back, watch and enjoy the love come right back to you!

merry christmas

Should you say ‘Merry Christmas’ to customers at Christmas?

Christmas is one of the most magical times of the year, a time to spread the joy and celebrations… but does everyone share your thoughts?

When wishing clients or customers a Merry Christmas,  you don’t want to offend anyone but at the same time you want to spread some of that much loved Christmas joy that comes with this special time of year!

So what do you do? Well the first thing to do is ….think!

If we take a look at the last few years creating Christmas eCards for businesses in Wishawish an overwhelming 57% of clients chose to go with the ‘season’s greetings’ message rather than ‘Merry Christmas’ or any other variation.

But if you think about it, is Season’s Greetings even that politically correct? Just as there are potentially people of other faiths who might be offended by receiving a Christmas card when they do not celebrate Christmas, so are there Christian people who will be offended by receiving a greeting card which ‘uses’ THEIR holiday. Other people might simply see it as a diluted sentiment, or one which airbrushes its own history,

Other variations you might want to consider is ‘Happy Holidays’ or something more focused on the end of one year and the beginning of another – ‘Happy New Year’ or ‘best wishes for the coming year!’

seasons greetings ecard

It’s important to think through your options and what you want to say as a business. Think about your own tone of voice and let that help you. What do you want to project as your business’s ‘personality’?

Another point to consider is your clients. What do you think the majority of your clients want to hear? This can really help steer you in the right direction but even here the best option is not always clear.

And so, ultimately you have to go with what you are most comfortable saying and what you really would like to wish your contacts. All in all think about your business, your tone of voice and how you intereact with your customers.

There is no one perfect way to do this and every choice has potential for people to get upset (even not sending a card at all might upset some people), so if you go with what you are happy with you will also be more comfortable standing behind that choice should you need to.

Some options to consider:

There are a couple of options and possible ways around it-

1. Write a dual message, something like:

‘Happy Christmas and Season’s greetings to all our clients wherever you are’

2. Create inclusion by other means like- a multilingual greeting.

You can find a list of translations in up to 47 languages for all 3 major greetings (Happy Christmas, Season’s greetings and Happy New Year) on the Wishawish website. Click here

Marketing At Christmas: The single biggest mistake to avoid

One of the buzz lines of marketing is ‘have a strong call to action’.
But when it comes to Christmas – forget it

Sending a Christmas card to your contacts is right on the border between business and personal. You really do not want to come off as someone who is making Christmas all about commerce!

If there is something everyone resents, it is someone using Christmas to promote themselves.

Your eCard is here to act as a breather from commerce, it is here to say- we are thinking of you, and we genuinely would like to wish you well. You are now communicating with your contacts as a friend who wants to wish them well so don’t try and sell anything with your eCard.

By all means have your brand colours all over the card, and web address on the screen for as long as you can (but it should not be bigger than your ‘Hope you have a fantastic year and thank you for being great!’ greeting.) but no calls to action, no ‘click here to get in touch’.

The only exception is if you can HELP your customers. This means making the stress of Christmas shopping easier by offering a discount or a sale or a free gift.

This is so important I want to say it again- No calls for action except an offer.

paper waste

Save money at Christmas: Eco-Friendly Ecards VS Paper

One of the biggest downsides of paper or greetings cards is their wasteful nature! According to an article by the BBC up to one billion cards and 83 square km of wrapping paper will be thrown away this Christmas. That’s enough rubbish to fill 400,000 double-decker buses!

That’s another reason why many businesses prefer to send our Corporate Christmas ecards because they are environmentally friendly ecards!

eco friendly ecards

Think about it; is your office energy conscious? Do you make sure lights go off, computers are off instead of on standby and you make sure you recycle? So why should your marketing efforts be any less energy conscious than your office or even your home?

Eco friendly ecards just make sense for any business conscious about waste and we don’t just mean energy, we also mean costs! It’s not just paper you are wasting with paper cards, it’s also packaging, printing the postage labels, the time needed to put it all an envelope and then petrol to deliver and the delivery service itself! Adds up quite a bit, doesn’t it?

Paper cards cost:

• Design fee

• Printing costs (Depending on paper size, quality, ink and amount)

• Delivery (of the cards to your office)

• Buying envelopes

• Printing address labels if relevant

• Postage- national and international

• As well as time spent signing cards and stuffing said envelopes.

eco friendly ecards Animated eCards cost:

• eCard design and/or customisation fee

• email design

• Pay per send if relevant

Also don’t forget you have to be conscious of time when posting. It’s a busy time for the postal service you don’t want all your efforts to be trapped in a postal backlog! With our energy conscious, customiseable ecards we can arrange a time and day with you to send. We set it all up and then when the time comes you can click that button and ‘Woooosh!’ your ecards are off! Easy.

Final Note:

energy concious ecards

So compared with Paper, animated Christmas ecards are not only measurable, clickable, follow-able, viral, shareble on social networks, cheaper,  quicker they are also more

eco-friendly!

It can be pretty easy being green.

Interview with WishAwish animator: Fiely Matias

Fiely Matias is one of Wishawish’s ecard animators. In this interview Fiely explains, how his Fiely Matias Animatorpassion for ecards was formed with the creation of the GIFs when the internet first started

Describe your current occupation?

I am currently a freelance graphic animator and freelance actor/director

What do you love most about animation and how did you get involved?

I love drawing and animating because, it’s one of my passions! And when you do your passion all is wishawish animator quotewell with the world! I love it when my art can make someone in the world smile or chuckle. It’s really what it’s all about..making a positive impact in our world no matter how small.

As a child I used to draw by hand. I never thought I was good…and I never had enough patience. I studied journalism and theatre in school and never drew until my thirties. I was in between acting jobs…and I bought a computer. At that time the internet just started and animated gifs were all over the place. I was fascinated with the fact that these small moving images! Most of the gifs were made with very few cels and they just looped. So I started doing research on my own, how these were made. The fact that they were very easy to make fed my interest even more.

I then started downloading free software trial that helped create gifs. Well that was it. After a while…I started drawing my own creations. And since I am competitive by nature…I started entering contests….I lost at first…but then I started winning. What I loved about digital drawing was that it was so much easier to edit and get my vision done. In some ways it was harder…but I was really fascinated by the digital medium. Ultimately I taught myself Flash and 3D animation…which is what my focus is today. The internet was great in that…every tutorial you can think of exists…and it also a great place to showcase your art to the world!

What are some of your favourite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?

For the last few years I have been freelancing for a software company READINGKINGDOM.com. They have a created a system to help teach reading to kids. I love that I am part of such a cool project that helps the future!

You’ve created ecards such as ‘Bouncing Santa’ and ‘Ocean Christmas’ for WishAwish. Why do you enjoy working for WishAWish – the Christmas Corporate Ecard Company?

bouncing santa ecardWishawish is a company born out of passion and such a wonderful, nurturing place for animators! SO supportive and so caring. They also have some of the best internet animators…so  to be part of that group is such an honor!

What do you like to do when you’re not animating?

I love to do yoga and I am a foodie! Love to EAT! I also am working directing a new musical comedy show that is slated to go Off-Broadway next year. I helped create the show and my FB fanpage is www.facebook.com/disenchantedmusical

Google-trends

How to use Google Trends to help your marketing campaigns

I didn’t intend to write a blog post on Google Trends, initially I was using it myself as a way of collecting data on WishAwish’s own target demographics’ search behaviours. But since Google Trends is a universal tool which anyone can use, I thought a blog post would be a good idea to explain what Google Trends does and how it can help you and your marketing efforts too!

Firstly let me explain what Google Trends is, Google Trends is a clever tool from Google which provides data based on Google Search that shows how often a particular search-term is entered relative to the total search-volume across various regions of the world, and in various languages.

strategy and planningWith this information you can really direct your marketing campaign, whether that’s PPC ads, social media, newsletters, ecards, SEO etc… It’s all about working out when your audience are there and how they are searching. Get it? Let me explain further…

For example, at WishaWish we specialise in customisable corporate Christmas ecards. As you can imagine the majority of our clientele aren’t thinking about their Christmas ecard marketing campaign now in these summer months (ahem… even though a previous blog post explains the benefits of being prepared now). Nevertheless we can use Google Trends to work out exactly when our target audience are starting looking for our services.

Here we have used Google Trends to pull data from the keywords: ‘Christmas Ecards’

ecards_trends

No surprise then that there seems to be a pattern every year when people are searching the most for our keywords. But now let’s look closer at the data and see how we get to this peak

email ecards google trends 2012

As you can see search for the term ‘Christmas Ecards’ actually starts gaining notable volume in October, which continually rises until it hits a peak between December 15th -20th . This is relevant information for WishAWish and our own marketing efforts. We can see that people are looking for our services in October and November so perhaps we send our previous clients a reminder email or ecard, or run a special offer on our social media channels during this time. We know we’re going to be very busy during mid-December, so let’s try and get more clients on board before!

Google trends doesn’t stop there, it can also give you an idea of the different keywords people may be searching with that could help your SEO and Paid Search efforts. For example here are the Google Trends results for ‘Custom Ecards’. Google Trends shows us that ‘Custom Ecards’ also gains higher search volume from October. In fact the term ‘Custom Ecards’ received more search traffic in 2012 than ‘Christmas Ecards’, which is useful information for any paid search ads we may want to run.

time_ranges

Google Trend results for 'Custom Ecards' in 2010, 2011 and 2012

Google Trend results for ‘Custom Ecards’ in 2009, 2011 and 2012

Finally Google Trends gives you a list of similar keywords your target demographic may use to search:

ecards_terms

Even though Google Trends has suggested words that aren’t relevant to WishAWish such as ‘free Christmas cards’, this data can still be useful. For example if we were to run a Paid Search campaign during November – December we can add words like these, that don’t fit into our business model, to our Negative Keyword lists. Meaning if someone types in Google ‘ Custom Christmas Ecards Free’ they don’t see our ad because we would have listed ‘free’ as a negative keyword.

All in all Google Trends is a handy little tool for finding out when your target audience are searching and what keywords they are using. It is up to you to make the most of this data and alter your marketing campaigns accordingly.

The Importance of Mobile: Email and Ecard Marketing [infographic]

With smarter than ever smartphones and online activity becoming more interactive and accessible it’s no surprise that marketers are concentrating more and more on mobile.

In fact ‘28% of Internet usage comes from a mobile phone’ source: MobileWebRockStar

That’s why with every marketing campaign you run you have to be thinking about mobile users. But what does this mean for email marketing and corporate ecard marketing? Well it means you have to be mobile friendly, ecards that work on mobiles!

Recent research from ReturnPath suggests that mobile email open rates have increased by a massive 300% over the past two years and that more people now read their email than make calls on a mobile device.

At WishAWish we understand the importance of ecard to mobile phone and how a lot of your recipients from your corporate ecard campaign will open your ecard via mobile device. That’s why all of WishAWish’s non-interactive ecards are mobile phone compatible, in other words able to send ecards to mobile phones.  So your clients can view their animated ecard any time, any where and on any device!

Want to understand more about the importance of mobile? Check out the infographic below.

creative marketing tips

Creative Marketing : Why you need to make your business stand out

Every business knows that marketing is key to promoting a business and getting conversions, and the great thing about marketing is that you can be creative with it! In fact, in many cases the more creative you are in your marketing efforts, the more successful your business.

If you think about it, everyone is fighting for advertising space. Ask yourself, do you want your marketing efforts to be something someone just glances over or something that actually makes a connection?! A  recent survey found that:

“We’ve gone from being exposed to about 500 ads a day back in the 1970s to as many as 5,000 a day today.”

Jay Walker-Smith, Yankelovich Consumer Research

So as marketers or managers you need to make yourself stand out from the crowd and you need to do it without spending a fortune.

Writing company the Writer, says: ‘Every boring piece of writing is a missed opportunity to touch, cajole or surprise’

Clever stuff, eh? Well, we think the same could be said for marketing.

Great, creative, marketing can take many forms in this digital age from clever social media, to infographics to six second Vine videos, to our favourite – ecards!

Business Ecard marketing can be a clever way to make your brand really stick in your clients’ or potential clients’ mind. With animation you can really make an emotional connection, if you’ve seen Disney’s Up you’ll understand exactly what I mean. The sounds, the colours the fun and entertaining images can be very powerful and resonant.

wishawish ecards

Customisable ecards also make great advertising tools because they are immediate, inexpensive, personalised and although sent via email, SPAM free.

At wishawish we have a range of animated ecards styles to suite any business of any tone. We work with you to define your goals of your marketing campaign whether that’s to increase sales, enhance brand promotion or to get sign ups.

Also we work across devices – including ecards for mobile, so no matter where your recipients access their ecard they will be able to view it in all its glory.

So make your company stand out with some clever, creative marketing and talk to us about your Christmas ecard campaign.
